Navigating Feelings in a Pandemic
It’s 2021, and the world has not ended. You are in your home and have access to the internet and a device to read this on.
I know you probably hear this everyday now, but, it could have been so much worse. Although, that definitely does not mean that it should not have been better. You worked hard in 2019, struggled through some personal issues, achieved so many goals, did not achieve some others and thought you would do it in 2020, but that probably didn’t happen.
I will be honest here, I was quite excited for 2020, simply because of the fact that it was an even number, ending in Zero. It was so satisfactory to write and both me and my OCD were very happy. And that, my friend, was absolutely short-lived. I can actually list how my emotions panned through 2020 and until now (almost the mid of 2021):
· Started with Uncertainty
· Then there was Uncertainty and Fear
· Uncertainty, Fear and this feeling of helplessness
· Uncertainty, Fear, Helplessness and just general Gloominess
· This desperate need to find Happiness
· Desperate need to find Happiness and hopefulness by the end of the year
· Hopefulness brought in by the new year
· Uncertainty once again but worse
· Uncertainty, Fear, Helplessness once again but much worse
· Numbness
And with that I can say, the only way to even start navigating through the emotional state of being that we all are in, is by being self-aware and acknowledging whatever we are feeling.
I know you might have started reading this blog with expectations of actually finding answers, but I am just on this first step myself. I promise to share the next steps as I figure them out, but for now, just don’t ignore your feelings. We are in this together and that is the only sliver of hope we have.
